i found a snail like this in the garden
and photographed it
a few days later
i wondered (and regretted)
that i hadn't kept it

about 6 months ago
i found another
it's been in a saucer in my studio
and,
for months,
every once in a while
i would find it somewhere else
and would marvel that it hadn't died yet
