today,
i decided to visit the highline,
i decided to do that instead of painting,
i did my daily work of course
but i took advantage of what will most likely have been
one of the last really beautiful warm days for another 6 months
the highline is a re-envisioning of a deserted stretch of raised rail tracks on the lower west side of manhattan
it is a marvelous way
to be in
yet leave
the city at the same time
it's one of those transformative spaces
where the hand of nature & the hand of wo/man
are intertwined to create a new experience
in a way it surprises me that today's image is not of the fabulous vegetation
or the beautifully stylized walkways that are evocative of tracks
or the imaginative benches/chaise lounges/seating areas
or the sweeping views of the hudson river to the west
or chelsea to the east
no,
it's a picture of a barricaded area under construction,
and honestly i had no idea of exactly what was there
until i put the camera over the fence and could see what appeared on the screen
but since i feel that this blog is about the experience of the studio
it does make sense
to post an image of the process of becoming
rather than the finished product itself
this looking at the "behind the scenes"
this discovery through doing
this refinement of randomness
all speak to the things i find to be part of my day to day activities
