sometimes things come in ways you don't expect
my new year's resolution:

he's hard to resist

not feeling well

he's not himself
this upsets me
a lot

studio cat

this started before i went away
and she was in here when i came home
smudge seems to be returning to the studio
i like that
(and hopefully oski won't get too territorial)

upside down

so as i tweeted today
everything in the studio went upside down
that resulted in a loss of...
preciousness?
equilibrium?
patience!
and there were ome major shifts

and then there is oski
who seems so content here
with his head in my watercolor water

but who spends the whole day
watching for intruding cats
which means
i spend my whole day
watching for his attempt at scaling the backyard fence
(he succeeds occasionally despite my elaborate attempts at containing him)

bad cat oski

i have gotten so much pleasure from watching oski become an outdoors cat
it seems he isn't that interested in hunting;
birds are feasting,
squirrels are carrying off tomatoes
while he is in the yard

but today i heard a fight
and when i got outside
there were 10 very long minutes
when he was no where to be found
and then, there he was
on the other side of the fence
in my neighbor's yard

i won't describe
in excruciating detail
what the next hour was like
as he went exploring,
hither & yon
until i finally got him home

all i will say is that there are tons of feral cats
in the backyards,
and he hasn't had shots
and i am not willing to loose him
it's going to be a battle
and it totally blew my painting vibe yesterday

tooth

often i find the cats "claws" in the studio
this time i found a tooth
it's oski's
his lower right canine (? feline ?)
i treat my cats like myself:
no problems, no doctors
but i think it's time to take them

bumped up against the spontaneity vs arbitrary issue again today
(see below)
it's a distinction that is critical to my process
