sometimes food wins

the revenge of the surströmming

it's so stinky,
that the can is opened outdoors
and the offending liquid is disposed of away from the house
(and hopefully not too close to the neighbor's)
then the fillets are rinsed and eaten with crackers, a bit of sour cream (we had greek yogurt), a slice of potato, a piece of onion and...
ice cold vodka
(or aquavit but we had drunk all that the the day before with the new catch holland herring
which has a taste on the opposite end of the scale.)

decisions

the placement of the flowers is becoming critical
there are an odd number of days
so one drawing will have at least one more than the other
but it's possible i might have to split it differently
and put three more on one of the pages...
i am not sure how the ritualistic side of me feels about this
i am not sure if that matters
since the numbering of days of the performance seems pretty clugey anyway
between marina's calendar & the flickr photoset

and of course
there is one drawing i like better...

to the heart of the matter

there is no point
for me to continue working
if i can't do this
if i can't continue to find
a deeper and deeper place
to work from

change every day

and just when i think i have come to a decision
another concern comes up...
there is no right answer of course
just which path will lead more directly to the goal
and that is always an unknown

the only way i know to resolve conflicts like this
is total immersion into the problem;
endless questioning
mindless wanderings
vigorous discipline
and faith that an answer will be revealed
in a timely, intelligent and unconflicted manner
