playing w/food again

in the studiotoday i tried something different
i really need to stop thinking about going into town as a long trip
i really need to get my bike chops more together
today i just dropped everything
didn't shower
stripped down my bike
(no basket, chain around my waist)
actually put on my helmet
and went in for an hour and a half event
and came back
i need to be strong enough to do this easily
so that i stop feeling so isolated

process

in the studiothe way these things dry up is quite amazing;
from time to time
i think i'll post that process here
just a few days ago
they were all so plump and vibrant:

challenge

in the studioi've been immersed again in on-line activity
which always leads me to question my involvement;
the quality of the time i spend on line
and why it's so seductive

i have to say the bulk of it is simply relaxation
i never watched tv
so for me, it must be replacing reading
this doesn't seem so wonderful to me

i justify it by perceiving it as an aid to both professional & visual development
while some of this might be true
the activity seems to be mainly voyeuristic in nature
and i can't imagine that resulting in growth
there is simply no stretching or questioning involved
there simply is no process
it is hard for me to qualify what i take away from the experience
except for diversion

i think we are all trying to figure out
how one uses technology as a tool
without it using you
somehow,
the process of arriving at what to post today
speaks to this for me

roots

in the studioi've completely indulged my inner geek
and am starting to go a little wonky from staring at the screen
something very physical is in order...

root

in the studiomany things are starting to come together
the concept that started in santa's workshop is beginning to really gel
the photos & the drawings are starting to merge
in a very organic way
and i believe tomorrow i will start to release my dependence on the bound journals
as the foundation for my daily watercolors

this image says it a bit better
but i don't think it is as strong as the one above:

estranged

in the studioanother one of those days
where the studio picture i take (below)
doesn't really do it for me
and it feels like something else needs to be here
there are so many conflicting things in my head right now
about work/posting/growth
and i am a bit unnerved by how isolated i have become
there is nothing like going through a list of people that you used to know
to make it clear
how estranged you have become
it's not a bad thing
but it feels a bit sad

in the studio
this is the 100th (and final) drawing of the grid project
it came off of the work that i am showing at sugar beginning this saturday
if you don't receive an email about it
don't be insulted
i am having a hard time with reaching out
(see above)
