sometimes food wins

the revenge of the surströmming

it's so stinky,
that the can is opened outdoors
and the offending liquid is disposed of away from the house
(and hopefully not too close to the neighbor's)
then the fillets are rinsed and eaten with crackers, a bit of sour cream (we had greek yogurt), a slice of potato, a piece of onion and...
ice cold vodka
(or aquavit but we had drunk all that the the day before with the new catch holland herring
which has a taste on the opposite end of the scale.)

i haven't painted in oil for quite a while
watercolor has seemed more integral lately

this is the studio on christmas eve
getting a head start on tomorrow
filling for two lasagnas:
one meat, one not
there will be a salad with clementines and fennel
some asparagus with an artichoke dip to start
and an apple pie for dessert

lunch

so today
i am doing errands
to the post office
to the bank
to shop for some food
and i realize
that i don't usually do this...

these activities,
for the past 3 years
have been stuck in between other things
on my way to & from work
or piggybacked onto other appointments.

it's been so long
since i was just able to leave the house
run some errands
come home
and work:
simple pleasures

(no wonder i've had such a hard time feeling settled)

lunch: semolina fennel raisin bread, flatbread, boursin, lemon artichoke spread, apple, tea (not pictured)

uh oh, vertigo

i had a whole other post planned today
taking off from where i was going on twitter
but at 8pm i got hit with vertigo
and that basically knocked me out
the nausea was so extreme...
after taking a homeopathic remedy i found from the last time
i was able to actually do my watercolors
i just wasn't comfortable ending the day without at least trying

eating in the studio, again

and i am happy i put out those drawings yesterday
1 month of them will be in the inaugural show at a new space called "sugar"
conceived & launched by the multi-talented gcs
i am quite excited to be a part of this
it feels like the right time
& the right energy

(that was spanakopita, octopus salad & olives, btw)
