changes

in the studioover the past couple of months
i have been shifting the focus of my daily watercolor practice.

for years
it has revolved around 5 journals:
work journal
left handed
life(s) lesson(s)
starting w/(a) line
daily bread

with the result that i have literally 100s of them,
probably close to 1000
and this creates all sorts of issues
with storage being one of them
and the difficulty of showing them being another

and then there is the production of them
since michael rogers stopped manufacturing them
i have had to supply the paper and have them custom made.

i usually make changes to my process in a fairly ritualistic way;
usually on the first of the month,
but last year i started a major watercolor project
(it looks like a month to me)
on the 15th
and lately i have found that i am phasing out the journals
slowly
over a period of time.

now, there are aspects of the exercises
that these journals formalize
which i don't want to lose;
and
i won't give up "journaling" altogether
but
i have so many other daily projects that i keep starting
that i need some flexibility
so the process is shifting:
left handed is taking place in the daily bread journals
life(s) lesson(s) are going to be on single sheets of paper
starting w/(a) line tends to be taken care of by the new projects
work journal; which has been with me the longest, will stay

wow
i've been thinking about this for months
and this is the first time i've realized a solution
